GIWA in India has been the first country level initiative led by Pujya Swami Chidanand Saraswati, co-founder of her global alliance, founder of GIWA India, and President of Parmarth Niketan, Rishikesh (secretariat for GIWA India). GIWA in India aims to create a ‘WASH Revolution’ by using the influence and reach faith and faith leaders have in communities as a powerful tool.GIWA has been creating platforms that help build on the strong belief that WASH is significant for everyone, more so for children – for them to be given a chance to live, grow and thrive. There is significant need for addressing the WASH needs of those belonging to the most marginalized and disadvantaged populations. And so that vulnerabilities of these marginalized and minority populations are addressed, a GIWA Summit including faith leaders of indigenous and minority populations, iwas held at Kolkata on 28 November 2015. Reaching out to indigenous faiths will help ensure that the ‘last child’ (who belongs to the most disadvantaged communities) is reached out, and their basic needs such as water, sanitation, and hygiene are addressed.
Indiattitude is proud to have managed this event aimed at improving quality of life and supports the spirit of GIWA.
